Neanderthin Review

Yah, this book is #1 on my list for a reason, get it, borrow it, steal it, go to the bookstore and read it there. (Please do ask before stealing it though)

Neanderthin : Eat Like a Caveman to Achieve a Lean, Strong, Healthy Body
by Ray Audette, Troy Gilchrist, and a foreword by Michael R. Eades (the author of Protein Power)

In this giant medicine cabinet of a world there are just some things that have child-safe lids on them and it’s probably for a good reason. Well, same thing with nature, there’s some foods that have a child-safe lid, and yet through grinding, boiling, blending and twice-baking we’ve managed to get these safety lids off. The solution: Safety lids are there for a reason! ….. Whoa!

Neanderthin is based on the Paleolithic diet, an idea of only eating foods that are accessible with the most simple of tools. The book takes a very enjoyable approach to the diet as one looks at various foods and sees the health advantages of good meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and berries and like wise another journey not just to a do not eat list, but to an understanding of why we can’t eat foods such as grains, beans and potatoes without processing them first and why that’s a bad thing.

The book is also great in the case of those who don’t always trust the studies that a book is citing… “We found a 10% increase in weight loss while the person was taking our diet pill” leaving out the next line “while eating a restricted diet and exercising 12 times a week.” Neanderthin isn’t based on experimentation, sure it can and is backed up by studies, but the book itself is based upon a simple principle of eating; taking away everything that our bodies aren’t meant to eat. You take away everything that takes up space without paying its share of the nutrition, and replace it with foods that our bodies have been thriving on before the advent of the grinding wheel and red #40.

My other random thoughts that never made it into a paragraph:

If one book could summarize every health and diet book out there it would be Neanderthin by Ray Audette.

It’s one of the few health books that I was actually able to read from start to finish and the entire time be thinking “wow, it’s so simple, why didn’t I think of that!”

It’s a gluten-free, low-carb, weight-loss, all inclusive book of getting healthy.
